Yahoo acquires messaging app

Yahoo has acquired San Fransisco based, mobile messaging application MessageMe, reportedly for somewhere in between $ 30-40 million. Yahoo beat Snapchat in this acquisition.

Message me is the brainchild of Arjun Sethi and Justin Rosenthal. Their team will be joining Yahoo, and the messaging service will be shut down on November 7, 2014.   It is still not clear that what roles have been assigned to the MessageMe team

In their official announcement MessageME says “We built MessageMe to explore our vision of how expressive and fun online communication should be. It’s been an incredible journey and we really appreciate all the support we’ve received from all of you over the last two years. The team at Yahoo shares our passion for connecting people in inspiring ways and we’re thrilled about the impact we can make with them.”

MessageMe lured in investors in early 2013 when it raised a total of $11.9 million in two rounds of funding led by Silicon Valley venture capitalist majors like ex-Mozilla CEO John Lilly, Google Ventures, True Ventures, SVAngel  and Andreessen Horowitz.
